Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring?

Camping gear. This means a Reusable Mug or cup (handles are nice) No glass pls,  tent, trailer, car, teepee, i.e.somewhere to sleep  and keep yo stuff. A way to cook your food. Camping stove, jet boil etc. Unless you plan to bbq the entire time. in which case bring bbq supplies. A Headlamp, costume, personal hygiene. Sunscreen. Comfy clothes for both cool and warm weather. clothes you don't mind having a water gun fight or paint fight in. Earplugs, for the nights where you want to sleep but the camp stays up till dawn

What is the weather like?

Unpredictable. Each year is different and the days fluctuate. Hot during the day, cold at night. Occasionally rainy. Sometimes insane winds. Layers are your friends.

Do we actually launch rockets?

Yeah I mean this thing was almost called “Rocketfest” so hopefully that answers your questions. Sometimes it’s pressurized water rockets, sometimes it’s good old fashioned solid-fuel rockets. Either way, Saturday afternoon is when all the action happens, so make sure you finish your rocket before then! Kits and/or instructions are mailed to you a week before the event. Hopefully.

Can I bring my dog?

Hell yes, there is a dog pack that runs wild all weekend. Please, for the safety of our pups, if your dog doesn't play nice off leash consider leaving them at home.

Where do we camp / park?

Anywhere! The grounds are huge. Your welcome crew will direct you upon arrival to the open camping areas. Once you're there from you can set up, settle in and join the fun once your done. If you like, you may leave your car by your camping setup or you can return to the welcome area and you will be shown where to park.

Is there a shower?

Nah you’ll live.

How do we cook?

Bring whatever you need to cook whatever you’d like! Or coordinate with some friends/other people who are going.

Whats the bathroom situation?

We’re building fancy little camping toilets for pooping only. We’re a leave no trace event, so poop goes in a bag, then you add some NASA approved powder to it, and take it home! Easy peasy, super clean + sanitary. Promise.

You said camping, Is there electricity?

We are a solar event! With some batteries, but we use them for events only. If you’re looking for a place to charge your phone, we’d recommend you bring a portable battery.

Is there Cell service?

Nope and we love it that way. :)

What about water?

Bring a gallon a day! This is open camping on BLM land, so it’s just us and nature.

What about waste?

Please take your trash back with you. This is a Leave No Trace event! Moonbass makes every effort to reduce waste wherever we can and we hope that you will too. We ask that you minimize the waste you bring in by removing excessive packaging from the items you pack prior to arrival.

Are there creatures out there?

You will occasionally hear coyotes and if you're on set up or tear down crew you might get lucky enough to see one. We are still explorers in the wild so do keep an eye out for rattlesnakes, spiders and the other usual suspects.

Which artists are performing?

Omgash, only the hottest of the hot. So get ready for exclusive meet and greets and super hawt selfies.

When does it actually start?

Your terraforming crew (which should include you) arrives a week early to begin altering the atmosphere to create a suitable environment where, upon exiting your ground vehicle your space suits can be removed for maximum comfort. We encourage you to join us early- it’s the best part of Moonbass (no joke).

Thursday is the get weird night where your terraforming crew gets… weird. Its low-key the best night of the week.

Friday is the big day when most of our lunar adventurers arrive.

What sort of events are there?

Just you wait- staring into campfires, long awkward silences... the sound of beans being scraped from a can. Ah yes...

check out our recent events page to see for yourself!

Am I gonna see butts ?

The moon and your lunar crew are all about body positivity. We've had naked runs, dance parties and the most bad ass (pun intended) band performance. Therefore, consider yourself warned: you may see your friends naked. Participating or not, it’s important to respect everyone’s boundaries, and you know, just be cool. The moon is huge and there are plenty of places to escape to if you ever feel suffocated by astrobutts.

What items are prohibited ?

Guns. Weapons of any kind. Except provided slingshots  But but but what if I want to set up an archery range or Fencing event? Cool Cool, let us know ahead of time by sending an email.  We'll work with you to make it happen

How do I get there?

good luck!

Is there booze?

Moonshine, the oldest tavern to be discovered on the lunar surface, prides itself on delicious ice cold beer and non-alcoholic root beer on tap 24/7. The cocktail bar relies on generous donations from citizens and visitors.  Want to be a bartender and show off your drank? Sign up on our events page to secure your spot behind the counter !
